What does Jung’s theory offer to practicing clinicians trained in other theories of the mind? In this three-part course, we will learn to work with dreams, fantasies and visionary experiences, to see the spiritual nature of psychological work and to lessen the burnout that many clinicians can feel when responding to their patients’ suffering in these difficult times.
This course will introduce participants to the nature of psychological suffering, the idea of symbolic experience, the use of diagnosis and Jung’s models of healing in the realm of the psyche. The curriculum will spread over 3 trimesters with the first being a general introduction to Jung’s most well-known ideas such as complexes, symbols, symptoms, archetypes and the self, as well as a first step in understanding symbolic psychic material such as dreams and fantasies. We will read a mix of original Jung as well as the most important next generations. Although the trimesters build upon each other, it is not required to take all three.
